Faves | Seven Podcasts I am Obsessed with

Hey friends, while on my 9-5 job I spend most of my time on a computer and since I need to focus on the docs in front of me, I spend a lot of my time listening to podcasts. For the past few weeks I have been on a journey to find podcasts that really feed this soul of mine. Not saying, that listening to Serial Killers on repeat for 10 whole hours is soul-crushing but it most definitely is not the most uplifting thing around…

The podcast world is vast and I had about 6 little white sticky notes with about ten podcasts names on each of them (talk about doing the most lol). I would dedicate each day at work a new day to listen to at least one new podcast, on this podcast journey I’ve found seven podcasts that have really been integral to lifting my mindset and my soul at work. I’m hoping one of these can help you too.

Happy Podcasting ;)

Still Processing

This podcast is truly, truly a conversation between friends and that is what makes me LOVE it all the more. Wesley and Jenna’s chemistry, eloquence, and self-awareness when speaking makes me incredibly happy to be alive (like can you pleaseeee record more seasons???)! My favorite episode is “Apology” where they discuss Kevin Hart and his fake apology, apologies in songs, in films and in their own lives. Now, this is what sets this podcast apart for me. Both Wesley and Jenna apologized to people in their own lives that they potentially scarred in their younger years. Jenna even records and lets us listen in on the conversation she had with her childhood friend. When I say growth... I mean GROWTH. THIS is the kind of level I’m trying to be on. Aware, intelligent and willing to apologize to those around me when I mess up. Please listen to the episode, it’s really amazing!

On Being With Krista Trippett

Let me just say, you need to visit the On Being website, the whole aesthetic of the site is appealing. Drawing me in to spend more than an hour just reading, listening, and absorbing all the stories and the “Living the Questions” segments. Krista’s soft voice is also very soothing, reminding me of a nostalgic time for english and journalism. My favorite episode is “Can conversation make any difference at a moment like this?” which talks about rape culture, gender battles, and the inabilty to communicate with one another and how we can open up conversation with those different from us. How we should for future generations. This podcast episode can be found here.

Hey Girl with Bethany Needham

The episode labeled “Losing Control & Gaining Perspective with Anna Mullen” discusses rejection, needing help, and trusting God when you don’t know what to do. Hearing Anna Mullen’s story was very encouraging because I feel like I’m in a time where I don’t know what I’m doing, where I’m headed or who I should be with but I’m trusting God and moving forward just like Anna did. Listen to it here.

30 Minutes with the Perry's

I love anything the members of the Poets in Autumn PIATour  put out so the fact that many of them are making youtube channels and podcasts makes me glad because now we can get a little closer of a look into their lives and the wisdom they have to offer. Preston and Jackie have so much to share when it comes to dating, relationships, sex and marriage. And you can hear it all here.

Bible Stories

Hearing from Matt and Todd on different stories of the Bible is very nostalgic. In the beginning I was like “nahh, I’m good…” but as I continued to listen to them, they remind me of some of the cheesy funny pastors, that I grew up with. They make the stories relatable and add dad humor (hot pockets, thinning hairlines etc etc lol) to the stories while also making sure you learn the main message of each story. This is just like an added bonus thing, like you read your bible and then you can hear their commentary on the same story. You can find it on here.

Are you Real?

I just started this so I don’t have a huge opinion on it yet but the Hospitable Leader with Terry A Smith episode gave me so many gold nuggets when it comes to ministry. Seeing your own pride and letting it go to further God’s will for you and those around you. Also take breaks, relax and realize that resting is necessary for good leadership especially within a church. You can find that episode here and on Spotify ann on Apple Podcasts.

Atlanta Monster

After reading the amazing book Leaving Atlanta by Tayari Jones, I was amped up to find information on the Atlanta child murders of 1979-1981. The researcher in me loves a good investigative treasure trove of information and after doing independent research on the Atlanta child murders, I  finally found this podcast that gave me access to interviews, phone recordings and so much more! If you’re interested in knowing more about the kids, atalanta during that time, and the killer himself listen to this podcast here or anywhere you listen to podcasts.

Honorable Mentions:

The Happy Hour with Jamie Ivey, Living over Existing, The Balanced Life, Becoming Wise, Depth & Candor, You Had Me at Black, Righteous & Ratchet, Black Men Can’t Jump [In Hollywood], and of course the infamous Serial Killers.
